Volunteer Beatriz Gomes Shares Her Experiences on Jetset Times!

Uncategorized|

November 21, 2014 Behind Give And Surf: Why I Chose To Be An Ambassador BY BEATRIZ GOMES Give and Surf is an organization Jetset Times is incredibly passionate about. Last year, we traveled to Panama’s Bocas del Toro islands, witnessed a group of young indigenous children receiving outstanding education from G&S. We were so moved by their international volunteers that we asked them to tell their stories. Many have traveled thousands of miles from their hometowns to be involve and teach Panamanian children who otherwise would never have a chance of receiving higher education.  Meet Beatriz Gomes from Brazil, who volunteered earlier in 2014 and is hoping to return and help again this winter. I hope her positive spirit and experience can inspire to make a difference in your own communities. Xo, Wendy  I am Brazilian. I live in São Paulo, the largest city in the country. Unfortunately, social inequality is something that echoes through my town and I am accustomed to stumbling this reality. I had already participated in some social projects in my country, but none have been as intense as this. It was the first time that I left my city life completely to immerse myself into the reality of an indigenous, island community of Bocas del Toro, Panama. I swapped the comfort of my apartment for a house in the jungle, where I had no hot water or electricity. 17 Students Off to Middle School

Giving, Living, Seeing|

It is with great pleasure to announce that the School's Back Beach Bash fundraising event held at Palmar tent lodge early this month was a huge excess that exceeded everyone's expectation. Thanks to an awesome turnout from the Bocas Del Toro community and invaluable support from our partners, Palmar and Jak Kennedy's Tronco Negro ferry cruise, we were able to come together and raise the funds necessary to send all 17 of Bahia Roja's deserving middle school students to school in Old Bank. Now, for the sake of reliving the excitement, lets take a look back to some of the days most memorable moments.

Alexander to Police Academy!

Giving, Living|

Eddie's eighteen year old brother Alexander will finally be achieving one of his lifelong dreams of attending the Panamanian police academy (school stars today!) thanks to the diligent fundraising of our stellar volunteer Elyse Eng in 2014. For those of you in other parts of the world, Eddie is a great friend of ours and the captain of our ship. He has been instrumental in taking charge of a number of projects in Bahia Roja and Bahia Honda. Alexander appears to be following in his steps towards a life of public service. After graduating from high school in the top 5 of his class, Alexander knew more than anything that the police academy was the next step for him. All of this was made possible through the fundraising efforts of Elyse and her network of supporters. We can't thank you enough for making this possible!
